What are the corset rib shapes?

I don’t want to speak too much on this because I just recently learned about them, and I’m still figuring things out, but… there are 2 corset rib shapes.

Conical & Cupped.

Conical is more of a straight rib.

Most or all of my corsets are conical.

The shape that it gives is like a V.

They’re also known to push the floating ribs in more, which may help achieve a smaller looking waist.

Cupped or round shaped corsets have a rib that looks like it’s cupping the rib.

My MCC254 is, I believe, my first cupped rib corset.

It’ll give more of a U or C shape, vs. the V-shape.

Cupped rib shaped corsets are not known to push in the ribs as much as conical ribbed corsets.

I definitely recommend taking Lucy Corsetry’s rib quiz.

Go to https://lucycorsetry.com then go to “BLOG” and click the “Conical vs Round Rib Corsets” post to take the quiz.

cupped vs. conical ~ pros & cons of corset ribs

Based on MY experience.

Im gonna be sharing my experience with cupped rib corsets and conical / straight rib corsets, the pros and cons of each one, which one I like better, and which one I think is “best” for waist training.

Let’s start with corset brands.

OC = all conical corsets. I have not seen one cupped corset. beginner corset, ppl who are interested in wearing corsets but not for tight lacers, someone who doesn’t want a really curvy corset, doesn’t know too much about rib and hip springs, kinda low budget,

TT = both, but the “straight” or conical corsets do have a bit of a cupped shape to them, from what I can tell on the website. And that’s probably bc it’s more comfy for the wearer especially when the corsets are longer. I’ve spoken to a couple ppl who have worn Gemini straights and they have confirmed a they’re a bit cUpped so no my eyes are. Not ppl who like pretty designs on corsets, cosplay, intermediate corsets / MAYBE tight lacers, a bit more dramatic curve. A little pricier than OC. Lucy Corsetry, mother of all things corset related on the internet, recommends this brand and works with them

MCC = men / large rib cage, cupped corsets, long torsos. tight lacers welcomed, prices vary, between OC & TT.

There are of course other brands, but I’m familiar with these three and have experienced only these. If ur interested in other brands, check out Lucy Corsetry’s blog or the corset page on Reddit. On this channel, I only discuss what I’ve actually experienced and tried, and I won’t recommend or not recommend something I have not tried myself.

CUPPED

PROS:

  • More comfy in the rib area; can take deeper breaths.
  • Results are really dramatic while wearing the corset; looks really nice
  • Could be worn for maintenance,
  • If u have a wide rib cage, u may like cupped rib corsets better; also if ur a man, bc most men have large rib cages.

CONS:

  • Its cupped ur ribs, not pushing them in. So ur results are not as “good”
  • Results are not dramatic once u take off the corset / never really make a huge difference bc ur ribs are not being pushed in. / “no support to the ribs” some say.
  • Make take longer to close bc it solely focuses on the waist, vs on the ribs as well
  • Can feel like a belt around ur waist. (If u like that feeling then this is a pro for u)
  • Some folks feel like the cupped corsets cut into their waist, which is not comfortable, like allll the pressure is on the waist so if feels like ur being “cut in half” in a sense lol.

CONICAL

PROS:

  • Results are more dramatic after taking off the corset
  • Pushes in the floating ribs so you will eventually attain a smaller natural waist

CONS:

  • Less comfy in the rib area
  • Just bc it pushes in ur floating ribs, doesnt mean ur ribs will stay that way. If u stop wearing corsets, ur floating ribs may just as well go back to their “natural” area thats why maintenance is 100% required,

long vs. short corsets ~ pros & cons of corset lengths

Based on MY experience.

LONG

PROS:

  • No muffin top, little spillage
  • It helps take in the lower half of ur torso
  • Helps more with bloating imo bc pushing down on the lower part of the tummy
  • May look more “naturaL” while stealthing.

CONS:

  • If too long, can push into ur hips / hip flexors and may cause numbness (my cs426 longline) but only when sitting.
  • Not as “curvy” — which I think can be based on person to person; bc if u have larger hips, u won’t be able to tighten ur corset as much.
  • Bc it takes in the lower 1/2 of ur torso, again could be harder or take more time to close
  • Will not fit everyone, someone with a short torso may touch their legs? Incorrect length.
  • the longer corset is harder to close bc my fat and organs get in the way

SHORT

PROS:

  • Results are more dramatic on the waist,
  • Accentuates the waist even if ur stealthing.
  • Anyone can wear this length
  • “short corset cannot hurt ur ribs, ur talking about ur higher ribs not ur floating ribs” yes the mobility is

CONS:

  • Can lead to muffin top, spillage (if ur torso is medium/long)
  • Can also dig into the lower 1/2 of ur tummy, not pleasant feeling
  • don’t like when it pushes into my lower belly, and I like the longer corset bc if ur goes all the way towards my hip dips, then my hip dips are less accentuated.
