Do you have your own beauty hobbies or beauty routines or strategies you do or DIY to maintain your beauty inside and out? Maybe you’ve given yourself a daily, weekly, monthly, or annually routine to do in order to maintain your beauty, and some of them you absolutely love doing; the whole process relaxes you and you take pleasure in every step. You put on a good podcast or YouTube playlist and get to work.
Maybe your beauty schedule includes procedures such as: putting on a hydrating facial or peel after doing your skincare routine; purchasing an at home laser hair removal and doing it every 4-8 weeks, giving yourself a hot oil hair treatment or hair mask, perfecting your press on/ acrylic nail care, doing a brow and lash tint, having a consistent work out routine and ensuring you get your daily 10k steps in, eating healthy, giving yourself a pedicure and foot massage, dry brushing, oil pulling, etc etc.
Well, why not incorporate waist training into your routine?! Yes, I know, I know…. “ANOTHER THING??? When does it end?!!” Girl, maintaining your beauty will never end, so get that out of your pretty little head.
I’ve been wearing corsets and training my waist since 2013. But before I go any further, let’s quickly debunk a few things.
No, it does not harm your organs (maybe shifts them a bit temporarily but that’s it); no, it will not shrink, damage, or break your bones (if anything is going to hurt your bones, it’s you not getting enough calcium baby girl); and no, contrary to popular belief, it won’t stop you from breathing, eating, or having bowel movements (in my case, it activates my lazy bowels lol).
Now back in 2013, I was working out hard in the gym, weight lifting and doing lots of cardio on the elliptical. I lost a lot of weight but felt that the weight off my waist and tummy was being stubborn. I especially wanted to bring my waist in a bit. I naturally have wide hips and a small waist, but I wanted to accentuate it now that I had lost nearly 30 lbs. I was looking to “spot reduce” and asked all the trainers how I could accomplish this. And of course, their response was, “spot reduction is a myth, it’s impossible!”
I begged to differ and began researching “how to spot reduce your waist” online. That’s when I found Lucy Corsetry (back then known as Bishonen Rancher). I binge watched Lucy’s videos, bought my first corset from Orchard Corset, and started my own corset training YouTube channel (that one is now deleted, but my current one remains and hopefully forever will – youtube.com/@sinduz).
Now, when it comes to adding corsets and waist training into your beauty routine, or adding it as a beauty hobby, I’d say that’s a smart move. Especially if you’re young (18+) because you’ll get into the habit or routine of wearing it early on, and as time progresses, you won’t be able to go a day without it. And once you start seeing results from your corset, wearing it gets a bit addictive.
Regardless of how old you are when you decide to start wearing a corset, it’ll be beneficial in the long run. To see decent results, I’d say give it about 3-6 months of consistent usage; to see good results, give it around 6-12 months; to see great results, anywhere between 1-2 years; to see amazing results, wear it consistently for 3-5+ years.
It’s like any other beauty regimen that takes time to see results, and the more consistent you are with wearing it, the faster and better your results will be. When you start a new skin care product, you don’t judge it the first time you use it. You wait 1-2 weeks before making up your mind about whether or not you want to return it and write a bad review, or keep using it and tell all your friends and family to try it out.
Well unfortunately with corsets, you need to wait at least 2-3 months before you can “make up your mind about it”. Why? Well because you need to “season” your corset for at least 2-4 weeks, which is when you get your body and your new corset acclimated towards one another; your body needs time to see how it feels with the new item you’re wearing, and your new corset needs time to mold to your body.
Once the seasoning process is over, this is where the fun begins! You can start tightening up your corset as much as you can handle it, you can start wearing your corset for as long as you like, and you can start seeing your natural waist slowly come in and stay in. Again, the more consistent you are with wearing your corset, and of course the longer you have it on, the better the results will be. But just like any other beauty hobby or routine, maintenance is 100% required. Let me repeat that for the people reading fast: MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED. Just like with your hair masks, nails, skincare, healthy eating and exercising, and all those other beauty treatments you do to MAINTAIN your beauty, your waist requires a maintenance of training as well.
Let’s say you start a new skincare routine and you are glowing! But then you forget to repurchase one or a few of the products, or you get lazy about doing it every night. What’s going to happen? I’ll tell you what’s going to happen! Your skin is going to slowly go back to its “natural state”. If you’re acne prone and you stop using your acne fighting products, you’re naturally going to get a break out. If you have dry skin and you stop using your hydrating lotions and potions, your skin could start to flake or get dry patches.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you stop wearing your corset for a very long period of time (after only wearing it for a short period of time), your results will slowly fade and your waist will return to its “natural state”. I get comments all the time with girls saying they wore their corset for a month and saw absolutely no results… yawn, sigh, shrug (who’s going to tell her? not me, I’m done yelling and screaming about seasoning LOL).
HOWEVER, and this is a BIG however, if you have consistently worn your corset for years, taking a 1-2 month long break from wearing it isn’t going to be the end all be all. I’ve taken year long breaks after consistently wearing my corset. And although my waist wasn’t as snatched during that break as it usually is, it still had definition and curvature. You know when you wear a rubber band around your wrist all day and then you take it off and there’s an indent? But then your skin slowly expands back to its natural state, right? Just imagine wearing that rubber band on your wrist for a month, or even a year. How long do you think it’d take for your skin to expand back? A silly anecdote I admit, but nevertheless you get the idea, right?!
Have I convinced you yet into adding corset training as part of your beauty routine? I hope so!
Take care and stay waisted 🙂
