9 Practical Times To Wear A Corset For Waist Training

When it comes to waist training, there are times where I do wear my corset and times where I don’t even think about putting it on. I am not a doctor or licensed professional, and these are based on my experiences. Alright, let’s explore nine practical times, or moments, when I do wear my corset.

1. Feeling Anxious, Nervous, or Having Butterflies:  I love wearing my corset when I am feeling anxious, nervous, or I have butterflies in my stomach that cause me to feel a little nauseous. You know all those inconvenient feelings that social anxiety can give you? Putting on a corset during these moments can feel like a tight, warm, hug or embrace. In a way, the pressure of the corset pushes these bodily feelings down and out, and a sense of relief and security starts to fill me up. (I have a theory on corsets and the solar plexus chakra, but that’s for another blog post!) The next time you feel anxious or you’re worried about 10,000 things that you have no control over… try putting on your corset and see if it does anything. Or if you already have your corset on, tighten it up just a smidge and see if it makes any difference to your worry-wort thought pattern. Because wearing a tightly laced corset really does help the butterflies flutter away.

2. Bedtime and While Sleeping: Many people will assume that wearing a corset to bed or while you’re sleeping is extremely uncomfortable; but it’s really not. When you are asleep, your body is changing and functioning in ways that it may not get to while you’re awake. During a wake state, our bodies focus on other things like scroll our phones, chase our pets/kids, and the abominable household chores. But while we’re asleep, the body can just stay in that relaxed state and just clean itself out, do that whole cell turnover thing that we love, and of course, make us feel rejuvenated and energized when we wake up. Basically, our bodies are recovering from everything we put it through during the day. Adding a corset into the mix during this relaxed recovery state enables the body to… “configure” it the way you want much more easily.

3. Sluggish Digestion or Feeling Irregular: Contrary to popular belief, wearing a corset can help with digestion. In my experience, it helps push things along, especially if I have eaten too much or get constipated. Especially during travel, when my digestion seems slower than usual because I’m not eating my usual meals. It’s a way my body rebels against me for taking it off schedule. From my years of experience with corsets, working out, and trying every diet known to mankind, constipation and irregular bowel movements are caused by what you put in your mouth, not necessarily by what type of garment you’re wearing. I will, however, say that from conversations I’ve had over the years from those who wore corsets with irregular bowel movements, their corsets might have been ill-sized, or pushing down on areas other than their waists.

4. Being Super Bloated or Gassy: Most bloating is caused from too much air or gas in the belly. So whether I’m experiencing bloating from my period, PMS, or I’ve eaten a large salad, raw cruciferous vegetables, or bad food combinations, it’s never a good time. But putting on my corset to act as a constant, firm hand pushing down on my stomach really helps relieve the gas pressure. No gas-lighting, just gas-relief!

5. Before Wearing Form-Fitting or Bodycon Dresses: This has got to be my favorite thing to do to tame, control, and flatten out my lower belly pooch before I get dressed. I’ll wear my corset for about 30 minutes while getting ready or even during a long car ride to the event, and it really makes such a difference. I’m not of the people who like the pooch, are proud of the pooch, or show off the pooch. I want to hide the pooch, tame the pooch, control the pooch, and flatten the pooch!

6. During Light Household Chores: I like to put on a corset liner or t-shirt and wear my corset while cooking, dishwashing / loading the dishwasher, meal prepping, folding laundry, or vacuuming. It serves as a very light passive workout, making me feel both productive around the house and physically confident when I look in the mirror afterward. Productive waist training: multi-tasking at its finest!

7. Running Errands: I like to put on my corset under a large sweater or big t-shirt to run everyday errands: go to the library, return items at the mall or UPS, grocery shopping, and sometimes while I go on my “hot girl walks”. Running errands means getting in and out of a car. So depending on how tight my corset is, sitting in the car can be slightly uncomfortable, but I remind myself to push through to maintain my training consistency. I’ll admit, it’s not always easy, but I never regret keeping my corset on. Even if that means loosening it up.

8. Sedentary Activities: I wear my corset when I’m doing tasks that require sitting for long periods of time. These tasks include recording and editing content, managing my social media strategy, brainstorming or talking through ideas, watching TV, and reading. Oh, and of course, I can’t forget scrolling on my phone! I utilize that sedentary time to stay laced up. Psychologically, it keeps me aligned with my brand and motivated to write content about corsetry. So if I’m going to be sitting down for hours on end, I might as well be waist training!

9. While Eating to Control Portions: Wearing my corset while eating restricts the volume of food I can eat, which helps me get and maintain a petite figure. Light and airy like a fairy is what I’m going for. I have a theory related to having a scarcity mindset around food from growing up poor, which can sometimes trigger overeating or binging, but that’s for another blog post. Nevertheless, eating in my corset seriously helps me reduce the amount of calories that go into my body. I’ll admit, though, I don’t always wear my corset while I’m eating. Or sometimes I’ll take it off. But lately I’ve been doing my best to leave it on, or just loosen it up instead of taking it off. Also, if I’m feeling peckish, putting my corset on or tightening it up is never a bad idea. Eating while tightlacing can seem hard, but it’s not if you’re eating the right foods.
